Digital Democracy Workshop

Digital Democracy Workshop 2022 This workshop was co-organized by the Democracy Community of the Digital Society Initiative (DSI) and the Digital Democracy Lab (Digdemlab) at the University of Zurich. It aimed at facilitating exchange among scholars from different substantive fields working on these topics. We were particularly interested in topics such as political communication and public opinion, e-government and public administration, AI and governance, civic tech and political participation, the regulation of tech platforms, and state repression and surveillance, among others.

Dagstuhl Seminar

Challenges and Opportunities of Democracy in the Digital Society Digital technologies amplify and change societal processes. So far, society and intellectuals have painted two extremes of viewing the effects of the digital transformation on democratic life. While the early 2000s to mid-2010s declared the “liberating” aspects of digital technology, the post-Brexit events and 2016 US elections have emphasized the “dark side"of the digital revolution.

D3-Project Kick-Off

Digital Deliberative Democracy Democracy is seemingly in turmoil: the legitimacy of won elections is doubted due to interference via social media; public ballots and referendums are going differently than expected; and the deliberative culture within countries is seemingly disrupted by the increasing polarization supposedly fostered by the rise of social media and their lacking robustness against manipulations.
