Digital Democracy Workshop 2023
After last year’s participation, we joined this year’s edition of the Digital Democracy Workshop again with two speakers: Cristina Sarasua and Catarina Pereira. After the welcoming introduction from Fabrizio Gilardi and Karsten Donnay, Cristina Sarasua opened the first panel of the event with her talk about “RfC Deliberative Quality Across Wikimedia Projects: Comparing English Wikipedia, Wikidata, Commons, and Meta”. In this work, she researches the quality of deliberation in the collaborative editing of Wikipedia articles.
In the second panel, Catarina Pereira gave her presentation about “Detecting the signal amid the noise: how to measure deliberation quality?” This work addresses how the discourse in deliberation affects changes in citizens’ opinions and is part of her PhD thesis.
However, without more contributions from our team, the event went on with interesting talks about algorithms, communication, participation, policies, and security in digital democracy. Hope to see you next year again!
